Yes, the 140Mafia scoreboard does change, but, it is only the top players leap-frogging each other back and forth, and the only way anyone ever could start playing the game today, and get on the 140Mafia scoreboard, would be a miracle!
The reason I built this site, one year ago, I was a bit bored and had just started playing 140Mafia and the game offered little or no assistance to teach the new player, and the folks at levels 500 and up now, were at about 250 or so, and everything was “survival of the fittest” which is great, but, as a new player there are certain expectations, that are just unreal, and, after a while, I would imagine about 99% just quit playing, I wanted to help slow this. You may be surprised, but this site gets quite a bit of traffic, people come here looking for tips, and there are some, but the community I had hoped would develop, has not, but, I am not giving up on it.
Anyway, back to the topic. Those that are on the scoreboard stay there until they quit playing and someone else plays like a fiend and catches up to where they were and passes them, it is a long slow process, but, if you want on that scoreboard, do not quit playing, eventually, someone will stop, and you can catch them! I still play, sort of, but mostly, I am here to give others the XP they are after, so that maybe a newbie will get a break.
I still encounter the server issues now and then, but it has gotten better. I login, do a few jobs, but a bit of property, weapons as I need them, and even pick a fight or two, but the days of playing all day and night are long gone, the game helped me take a mental vacation, now, I just play to take a break, when I need it, and I love 140Mafia for that, but, unless everyone above me quits playing, my current level being about 176 or so, I will never catch up!
Today, after writing about the server issues with 140Mafia, I discovered that this site had a problem too! If you tried to read anything on this site since the latest WordPress update to 2.9, you may have seen this error message.

I am sorry about this, it had something to do with the upgrade, and the way the theme shows the breadcrumbs, luckily, I knew where to find the solution, and it has been taken care of. Since theme customization is whet I do, I now have to go through all of the sites I have built and see if any of them have this problem! So, for those that did see this message, next time, let me know, I found out by accident! I use Firefox, and the browser had cached the page info or something, and this did not happen when I viewed the page, it did, when someone else took a look, using Firefox as well. Anyway, the problem here is solved, I just wish that LOLplaying would fix whatever is wrong!
Oh, I checked the 140Army game, it has the same problem as 140Mafia, so, it could be something more serious than just needing to clean up the database!

Topsy, A search engine powered by tweets, has a plugin for WordPress, that places a button, as you see to the right, that will allow our visitors to see how many times each article has been tweeted, or, retweeted, and will allow our visitors to retweet by clicking it. In case you don’t know who or what Topsy is, below is an excerpt from their website.

I feel very strongly about Twitter, and anything that adds to it, such as the games we play, because, the “social” scene is just so restrictive, both Facebook and MySpace are wonderful things, if they work for you, and you want to hang-out on their website. Since building WordPress websites is my hobby, getting people to these sites has gotten more difficult. Back when Google was the only real search engine, and websites were all static, containing boring pictures with links to more boring pictures and some text, it was easy, just add the right keywords and meta tags, and Google ate it up. Then came Web 2.0, the dynamic websites using databases. MySpace and Facebook were born and that is where everybody went!
Today, those two sites are monsters, with literally millions, if not billions of people, all interacting with the same website, yet not each other, it is all the same, and to me, boring, it is just about the masses trying to hook-up, having to do searches to try and cull out the ones you know, then meet their friends, having to deal with people bugging you to be “friends”, there is no actual community, it is just like a big city where everyone is nameless.
What this site is about is simple, a group of people who share a common interest, Twitter games, and so far, mostly the 140Mafia game. This is why I am so fond of Twitter, it allows everyone to do, whatever it is they do, on any website they wish! Twitter is like a giant pipeline of information, not a mega community, you don’t have to be on the Twitter website to use it. Just like this site, when I hit the publish button, I send this article into that giant flow of data, where anyone anywhere can find it, and, Google can get to it as well, unlike those monster sites. Don’t get me wrong, for those that have a big family,and want a common place to meet or people who are not too passionate about any one subject and just want to interact with somebody, anybody, it is great, I would even consider these to be like a hub that all of the other sites connect to.
I believe that it is a normal thing for like-minded people to want to get together. Though we all have our own individual ways of playing, and that is a great thing about these games, it is still, the same group of people, no matter which game. Actually, since the games started showing up on Facebook and MySpace, I would imagine that Twitter is catching up quick! I see Twitter as the one thing that has actually allowed people to move around without being tethered to one single website. Since Web 2.0 is giving way to Web 3.0, every website can be like an off-ramp on the freeway, yet, just like cell phones allowed us to move around, Twitter does too, IF, the website are using it.
Now that Twitter has a specialized Search Engine servicing it, Topsy, there is no limit. MySpace and Facebook are so massive, they have their own search capabilities, and yes, they interact with everything else, including this site, you can post to them by clicking a button, but, it is not the same. Twitter is the future, and Topsy is there to help, you can add the search to your browser, just go try it, you’ll see what I mean.
I do have to admit, so far, I see but one issue, each and every article on this website have been tweeted, but, Topsy is not indicating all of them on those buttons, yet, it is a bit slow, I found this out adding Topsy to other websites with older posts, and as soon as the plugin was activated, the buttons showed Tweets for those articles, oh well, I am sure this will improve.
This is very important, please read this. When you register, you will be directed to the profile page. There you will be required to add your “Game Profile Link” what that is is simple, it looks like this http://140mafia.com/profile?id=YOURPROFILE NAME You may wonder why? it makes it easier for everyone to find you, should they need to drop a quick note on your profile page. Your avatar links to your profile page when you have the URL in place. In the past, no one added anything in this field, all members that registered prior to this post, don’t worry about it, I did it for you.

My point is simple, I build websites and create places like this, because I enjoy it, just like playing the games, it is something to do, and I like it. Why are you playing games? Why do you get on Facebook or MySpace, why do you even use Twitter? Well, I imagine it is for the same reason, something to do, and a way of communicating with others, share photos, videos, and maybe make contacts that go beyond just the site or game where we meet or play. Am I right?
All this site can do, is kind of like the difference between living in a commune or having your own house. In a commune, everybody does a little bit of work to keep the place going, but when it is your house, you have to do all of the work, cutting the grass, or repainting, and stuff like that, but it is yours! Here, all of the grass cutting and repainting is done by me, consider me the maintenance man, so, all you have to do is the fun part, hang out, make friends, and communicate, share photos , and videos , so, if you haven’t registered yet or even written a comment or reply, get started, bring in your friends and show off your new house!
We are moving into the 21st Century! As a Twitter Gamer, you are used to logging into the game, just by clicking the button to allow access to your twitter account and you see something like this:
When you click allow, it logs you into the game. Now, you will see the same thing for this site when you register.
But first you will see the main registration page as always, but it has something new, (see the picture above) you can register the “old Fashioned” way, by filling out the form and so on, or, you can choose to use your info from multiple sources, I do not know about the other ones, but I registerred and logged in this username by clicking on the Twitter button, it then takes you to the forums profile page for your new account, so, makes sure you fill out whatever is missing. This has now registered and logged you into almost every thing, the blog and the forum, but the chat is separate, you will still need to register there.
As I said, I registered this account by selecting the Twitter button, (yes, now there are three of me!) I do not know if the others will work, but since this site is for Twitter garmers, that will probably be the way most will want to register, but if you use one of the other buttons and it doesnt work, just let me know, if it can be fixed, I will fix it, otherwise, I will just remove that button.

Gamerz.com now has a chat room! Remember those? I can see it being ok if you have someone that you want to have a “live” one on one conversation with, but it is not perfect, as you know, chatrooms are a bit outdated but, in case you want to use it, it is there. All you have to do is use your current username and password for this site, at least when I tried it with fat_madman as the user, on another browser, it auto-filled the user and password, so, I just clicked the button and it let me in! I know this could be a can of worms, but I guess we will find out. Have fun!
Any discussion about the chatroom goes here, let me know if you encounter any problems, too many and we will get rid of it! At this time, this will be the only link, let me know if I should make it easier to find, and if we need more rooms, I guess I could set them up for the differnt games or something, just let me know.
If you don’t have a Gravatar, and don’t know how to get one, this video could help you. Whether you are posting a comment, or a reply to topic in the forum, you can use a Gravatar. In the forum, you can upload an avatar of your own, but, with a Gravatar, it is automatic and where ever you have a membership, if they use Gravatars, it will also automatically work there.
As a fellow gamer, I saw a need, and have this site to offer all of my fellow players. I don’t know about you, but trying to discuss something with someone, while playing the game, having to go to their profile, and comment there, then go back to your profile to see the answer, is a major pain in the butt!
I know, that is what Twitter is for, ok, and how many steps does that take? What if they have DMs turned off, it is too much of a hassle, plus, with every action of the game creating a tweet, a discussion is impossible, your message gets lost in the clutter.
This is why I built this site, there are no ads, no catches, no nothing to be a problem. Your private info is not seen by anyone, only your nisckname shows, just as in the game, hopefully you will register with the same nickname, and, if you find that someone has registered here, with your nickname, let me know, we will get that taken care of quick.
You will notice the different categories, they correspond to the blog categories, let me know and we can start new ones for your team members etc, or even private ones, just let me know.
Oh, should there ever be a need for more than one language, the forum can be adapted, and I will create a separate area for these new languages, however, for that to work, I will need a moderator that speaks that language.
